What can I say about Kappa Mikey? It's about an American cartoon kid who wins a grand prize trip to Japan and becomes the star of a super-shonen action show, and off the set, he has wacky adventures with his anime-manga inspired pals. I say that it's pretty darn original.
If you're a big fan of anime or manga, but you also like wacky cartoons that break the Fourth Wall like Family Guy or Animaniacs, this is the show for you. There are lot of random moments that make you go, "Huh?!" (ex. some of the cutscenes consist of dancing sushi), but despite it being over the top even for a Nickelodeon show, it's just plain funny.
One of my favorite things about this show is that some of the Japanese characters who work with Mikey are voiced by veteran anime voice actors (Gonard is voiced by the same voice actor who voiced Goku of DBZ fame). In conclusion, this is a show for anyone who loves random moments and tributes (and parodies) to classic anime. Well done, Kappa Mikey!
