*Currently still watching the last four episodes of the series . . . so this may change within days*
Ever since watching the original versions of the films, I had wondered what awaited the two best friends after the end of "Movie Star" (AKA the second film). Boy was I shocked to find out that a series was made . . . so I had to check it out.
Just as it says, the cute and lovable Hugo is together with his best friend, a young vixen named Rita - together they journey to Hugo's jungle home, their hearts thirsting for adventure. And in tune with the films, greedy humans somehow know of Hugo's existence and wish to capture him for their own strange purposes.
Yeah, that's a basic enough summary of much of the series. However, there are other strange events that take place, making this rather enjoyable to watch: Rita and Hugo's strengthening relationship for each other, reuniting with old companions (mainly from the first film), and other mysteries about how Hugo actually came to be (but of course, I have no real idea - I don't understand Danish . . .).
Compared to the quality of the films, the Jungledyret TV series is rather . . . dull. The main designs are simpler and not as cute as from the second film (which I actually prefer). It's about the TV quality of a typical Disney TV series (think Aladdin's TV series after the first sequel . . . and you've about got it). Naturally, the only singing this time around is the rather catchy opening song (you listen to it yourself . . . it is cute to hear the two of them singing again!), but other than that, the voice acting itself isn't too bad. Even if you don't know a thing in Danish, it's easy to understand what a character's intentions or emotions are when they speak (I find this easier with Rita and Hugo . . . they like the argue a lot in the series).
In conclusion, if you're a fan of the Jungledyret films, check this out. At least it doesn't dumb down the series like the English dub of "Hugo the Movie Star" did to its original Danish. It's always good to see what happens next to favorite characters, yes?
