Quads is a series which would be in pretty bad taste, if not for the fact that creator John Callahan was rendered quadrapeligc in in auto accident, just like Reilly, the main character in the series. So it's a bit like Woody allen telling Jewish jokes.

A Canadian-Australian co-production, 'Quads' is actually refreshing in that it allows the disabled to be objects of ridicule. As a disabled person myself I have no problem with this, and actually think that it humanises the disabled by admitting that they are individuals who are quite capable of being selfish, manipulative, lewd idiots, the same as anyone else, rather than the objects of automatic, monotonous sympathy.

Reilly, a good-time drunk, is rendered a 'quad' after being run over by a rich lawyer. He gets a mansion as part of the settlement, and fills it with friends who who give the cast of 'freaks' a run for their money. The only exceptions are his likeable but air-headed new-age hippy girlfriend Fran, and his gay Australian massuer, Spalding (this character is an absolute classic).

The humour is adult and tends towards bad taste. The writing is pretty good, though not quite in the same class as 'The Critic', 'Futurama' or the very best adult aimed toons.

Still , I'm glad they made it. It's good fun.
