This is one of the best-known romantic comedy animes. And it starts out wonderfully, with hilariously insincere 'Model Student' Yukino Miyasawa doing her all to remain the idol of her classmates! She soon has a rival in Souichiro Arima, who beats her score on the high school entrance exam and becomes student representative.
A war for supremacy begins--a war that turns out to be one-sided. Is Arima really just as perfect as he seems (and as Yukino pretends to be?) All too soon, Arima discovers the secret oif Yukino's double life, and corcumstances continue to change, leading to friendship and (of course) romance between the rivals.
His and Her Circumstances is the sweet and often funny tale of a high school romance. It also has its darker moments--Arima has some dark secrets about his past. But for the most part, the series focuses on the ups and downs of the developing relationship. The characters are interesting, and Yukino's famuily are wonderfully kooky.
Downsides--a lot of shots of traffic lights for no particular reason, instead of anything pertinent to the ongoing story. And the humor so prevalent at the beginning of the series fades away as the romance develops. I also felt that the ending was rather disappointing, if realistic.
Still, if you like romantic comedy, this is excellent--well worth seeing.
SPOILER AHEAD
(After all the trials they shared and work they put into the relationship, as it ended they seemed to be drifting apart rapidly, and a new romance started to develop among two of the minor characters instead. It may be realistic--high school passions don't last long--but it was a very anticlimactic ending. I felt let down and disappointed.)
