I used to collect 'Heavy Metal' magazine. I think this movie is what cured me of my interest in the thing.
I saw 'Heavy Metal' in my teens, when I was off my face, and it was boring. The trouble is, it was designed to be watched by teenagers who were off their face, so God knows how I would suffer through it today.
Its segments are ostensibly SF and fantasy, but are mainly a vehicle for fantasies of scantily clad women aimed at teenage boys. Even a cavalcade of rock artists couldn't save it. Blue Oyster Cult - a top-rate band in the mid 70's, managed to produce a laughably silly collaboration with Michael Moorcock, 'Veteran of the Psychic Wars'. In fact the soundtrack features some of the most horrible music of the early 80's.
I haven't seen the 'Heavy Metal 2000' movie. Hopefully it's an improvement over this.
A cult classic that gives cults a bad name.
