I love Judy Garland (I have a few of her films), and I love movies that are set in Paris, like "The Last Time I saw you in Paris" starring Elizabeth Taylor (another favorite actress of mine) & Van Johnson, and the Pixar animated film "Ratatouille." And also I am cat lover (as I said many times).

Judy did a wonderful job as Mewsette (both in speaking and singing for her); and Chuck Jones did a excellent job with the production and animation of the film (Chuck Jones is one of my favorite animators). So overall, this film is an excellant piece of animation; it is colorful, beautifully animated, with songs you will remember and love as well.

I remember watching this movie when I was about 4(when I didn't give a thought for celebrities new and old), and I just loved it. My favorite character in particular was Mewsette. Naturally, since I am a Judy Garland fan, and so naturellement
I would be taken to Mewsette.
Mewsette dreams of having a sophisticated life in Paris. One day opportunity knocks on her door and she leaves her French country life and her lover, Jaone Tom, behind.
Jaone Tom sets of to Paris, along with his little sidekick Robespierre, to win back the heart of his lost feline.
Summary over. Any further I'll spoil it.

I'm a huge fan of Judy Garland's work as an actress and a musician, so it's no surprise that I found Gay Purr-ee to my liking. Miss Garland does a wonderful job bring Mewsette to life, both speaking and singing. And Chuck Jones did a excellent job with the production and animation of the film.

The story was an intreguing one. Mewsette, wanting to be all she can be, decides to leave her home on a farm and head to Paris to begin searching for herself, at the dismay of a lucky cat whom she loves and loves her. But the path she takes is not an easy one, and does run into a few bumps along the way. Made for a nice plot twist they way they did it. Once she finds herself, her ending result isn't what she expected, and she soon learns what she really wants.

This is one of those old films that is rare and unique in it's own way. If you're a long time fan of Judy Garland (and even if you're not, or you've never heard of her), you'll certainly enjoy it.

A surprisingly strong and very imaginative little film. Judy Garland as Mewsette really leaps out at you--this petite white cat belting it out for all she's worth... without a doubt her songs are probably the best thing this film has going for it. Not that Robert Goulet's crooning Jaone Tom or Paul Frees' sneaky Meowrice do a shabby job either. If I have any real complaint it's that the strength of the music overshadows the rest of the action in the film.

The look of the film is also quite spectacular--think Chuck Jones' Bugs Bunny-style meets the French impressionists. I love Meowrice's four black cat henchmen who are always these funky black cat-shaped shadows with big yellow eyes.

Definitely worth checking out.
