More a technical demo than a truly great film (or even a good one), in some ways it is like many of Pixar’s - or any other company's - early short films, For the Birds is a passable short in the Pixar cannon, in that it is watchable, even somewhat fun for the first watch, but after that it isn’t really worth the mark of a classic in the sense that I understand it. Personally I didn't find it that good on even my first viewing, although judging by the rest of the audience at least some of them found the ending funny. Pixar have made better shorts themselves and there are other short films which are much more worth your time; this one is worth a look at least once but I doubt it will bare up to too many repeat viewings.

This little short reminded me of the seagulls in 'Finding Nemo' for some reason, which was a plus!

Its humorous and the message is great! It didn't blow me away, of course, but it was good. Pixar works better with more time.

It a funny short. It is CGI, though (not a good thing in my book). The short is well animated, of course, you can't expect anything else from Pixar. But it seemed a bit too old fashioned homour to me. I mean, it isn't bad, bad it isn't very good either (unless you are into that kind of thing, like seeing a bunch of mean birds featherless).

I pretty much agree with the review below, but I'd go a bit further. This one really didn't do anything for me at all. I don't understand what's so damn special about it. It's not in the same league as 'Gerri's Game'. 'Boundin' I haven't seen, or was so unimpressed I forgot.

A number of Pixar's shorts give the impression that showcasing a new animation technique was a higher priority than telling a story (this is nothing new - ever see that Disney short, The Old Mill?), and For the Birds is good example of this. The centerpieces on offer here are the CGI feathers; the rest of the birds' anatomy may be purely cartoony, but their feathers ruffle and spread in a really convincing way.

The plot is extremely light, but the intrinsically funny designs of the birds make up for this. The way they squabble in squeaker-toy arguments is beautiful.

In the end it's not particularly memorable or remarkable, and probably won't be remembered as one of Pixar's finest hours. But hey, it makes for an entertaining three-and-a-half minutes, and that's really all it was meant to do.

An absolutely hilarious Pixar short. For the Birds is an odd lesson about karma, kindness, and the laws of rubber. But the best part comes with the payoff at the end, which I won't reveal. But that big bird's laugh really is infectious.

A cute and funny short that also has a good moral. I give it 3 1/2 stars.

If you want a definite Laugh-Out-Loud feeling in about five minutes, this is it.

For The Birds has eye-catching characters, a basic plot, and a hilarious ending that will make the whole short worth your while. The best thing about it is that the characters (which are all birds) only speak in their "bird language" and by using big gestures. Don't look away from the screen or you'll miss something funny.

I really think this is one of Pixar's best shorts so far, and I expect more awesome ones in the future!

My rating: 4 stars

Everyone loves the Pixar short films. I felt that this was the best of all of them. It shows the capability that Pixar has with computer graphics while making you laugh through the whole feature. It can be found on the Monsters Inc. DVD. I strongly suggest that next time you see Monsters Inc. that you also see For the Birds.
