posted: Sep 21, 2007 Rated it: | Mad Scribbler | When Finding Nemo first came out, when I was about ten, I really enjoyed it. But now, I don't feel so fond of it as I used to. I'm outraged that it's given a higher status than true classics like The Rescuers or Bambi. I'll admit that the underwater animation is very awe-inspiring, and Pixar have obviously done their homework on different species of fish - Royal Gramma, Regal Tang, Pacific Clownfish to name a few. The film does capture the feel of the ocean, from the open sea, to the harbour, to the coral reef. I think that it's the animation alone that made Nemo replace The Lion King as 'Best Animated Film.' Beautiful graphics aside, there isn't really much else to Nemo. The jokes simply aren't as funny as they were on the first viewing, and I'm the sort of person who tends to laugh at the same joke over and over again. Dory is sweet, and one of the few characters I really liked (the aquarium fish making up the rest.) Nemo himself is somewhat flat, and Marlin is such a jerk. And the wanna-be 'cool' turtles made me cringe every time they say 'dude.' So in short, The Rescuers and Bambi entertained me when I was five, and still do so today. (maybe even more so.) But whilst Finding Nemo was good when I was ten, it just doesn't satisfy my need for entertainment today. |

posted: Mar 24, 2007 Rated it: | Mad Scribbler | On animation alone I would give it four-stars. I remember when “Finding Nemo” first came out, and I went to see it on opening day. I distinctly remember being very impressed with the brilliance of the animation, so impressed I forgot about the story. “Finding Nemo” has a story that is just too darn predictable. It is obviously going to have a happy ending, and you can forecast each twist and turn. When I first saw Disney’s masterpiece “Bambi” I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, In “Bambi” it is difficult to predict the ending. I called every moment in “Finding Nemo”. The main characters are not great. Nemo is extremely dull, and Dori and Marlin get very irritating very quickly. The side-characters on the other hand such as Bruce and Crush are unique and interesting, enough. Besides the animation, I am really not impressed with the overrated “Finding Nemo”.

posted: Jan 15, 2006 Rated it: | KF Animation Editor | To date, Finding Nemo is the single most successful modern animated movie ever, whether it's Disney, Pixar, hand drawn or otherwise. So I find it kind of strange that it's getting so-so and terrible ratings here at Keyframe, but eh. . . You can't please everybody I suppose. In my opinion, Finding Nemo is Pixar's best work ever. Okay. So the whole plot of Marlin's journey and learning valuable lessons was a little cliched, but I should point out that Pixar hasn't done something that wasn't even just a tiny bit cliched. Even the villain in The Incredibles was weak. But I say it's about time that Pixar did something that was dramatic instead of comedic but not dark and violent like A Bug's Life was. And Finding Nemo doesn't go overboard with the jokes and "hipness" like certain other computer animated movies. And the animation and art design is incredible. Sure Pixar can craft a plastic toy texture and make it look believable. But to make a fish with scales and a realistic translucent effect and make an underwater environment seem alive but plausible? Now that's art. And I loved the characters and their whole banter. I loved how they bonded and grew as characters. It gave the film emotional impact. And I don't know about you, but I couldn't help but feel a twinge in my heart when Marlin had the flashback and picked up Nemo's fragile egg and reassured him. |

posted: Jan 11, 2006 Rated it: | newbie | It's strange. I often don't like movies everyone else in the world seems to be in love with. With FINDING NEMO it's especially strange 'cause there are very few reviews out there which don't praise this flick. I feel really alone with my opinion that this is the weakest movie PIXAR has produced so far and that it's probably the most overrated animated feature in history. Why I dislike FINDING NEMO to this extend? I can't really put my finger on it. I loved the trailers and was looking forward to it. After I left the cinema I kept thinking "Wow, that was pretty bad". There's nothing wrong with the animation which looks as beautiful as every PIXAR movie. But the whole movie is boring. Really boring. There's little excitement and the characters are the dullest things that came off a PIXAR computer so far. Nemo's father was just boring but Dory really annoyed the hell out of me. Most of her antics weren't funny either. The large supporting cast felt often a little ... well, strange, if I may use this word again. Save for the seagulls which had way to little screentime and where funnier than anything else in this film, I only liked the turtels and Niles the pelican who was nice to look at. But the sharks, the fish school, the fish in the aquarium... they just didn't 'clicked' with me. FINDING NEMO is a boring movie with very few things to remember. If you like it, that's fine with me. But don't expect that I will love just because the whole world things it's oh so great. It's not my cup of tea, if you want to put it that way. Thank god PIXAR gave us THE INCREDIBLES after this which is superior in every way. |

posted: Jan 17, 2005 Rated it: | newbie | It's obvious this movie is beautiful to look at. Simply picturesque. The thing that bothers me about this movie is the story, rather the story arcs. To me, the first scene set the pace of the rest of the story -- it's going to be a rollercoaster of emotions. Theres a happy, fun scene and immediately after it, they drop kick you with something sad. In my mind, I'm wondering if kids are being traumatized here. I like Dory and Elen DeGeneres voice work. And I think ALbert Brooks did a great job portraying a overbearing neurotic father. In the end, its just the story points that bother me enough from even giving this more than three stars. |

posted: Jan 02, 2005 Rated it: | Reviewing Ninja | It's a good movie, but its not one to watch over and over again. There were some neat characters in it, like Dory and the sharks, but the others seemed a little flat to me. This isn't one of Pixars best, but it's still an enjoyable movie. |
