When I popped in Everyone's Hero, I have to admit I wasn't optimistic. I fully expected that that the movie would be terrible. I was surprised to find that the movie was slightly better than I expected.
The film follows Yankee Irving, a boy who worships Babe Ruth and wants to play in the Big Leagues, but doesn't seem to have much talent. After striking out at the sandlot, he finds Screwy, a talking foul ball. When they go to Yankee Stadium to deliver dinner to Yankee's dad, Babe Ruth's bat gets stolen and Yankee is blamed because he was the last to see it. Yankee sets out to find the bat and return it to Babe Ruth.
The animation in the movie is alright, but nothing to write home about. However, they did have some good set ups that looked like they were taken from the Saturday Night Post.
Having said that, the movie has it's problems as well. One thing is that it's about baseball. That's not a problem for baseball fans, but people who aren't really into might get bored during the scenes where they actually play ball as well as miss some of the in-jokes.
I also didn't care much for Screwy or Darling. Both characters seemed tacked on because someone decided that Yankee needed some sort of wacky companions that would sell toys.
Overall, I'd say that it's a pretty good movie. Sure, it has a couple problems, but I'd say rent it, but don't buy it.
