Dr. Dog is really nothing amazing, but it grows on you. The protagonist is the speaking, highly intelligent medico/inventor/pet of The Gumboyle family. He is rational and kindly and generally tries to do good for whomever might need it. This doesn't stop him engaging in ridiculous projects which actually require him to do good in order to put them right again.

Typically episodes involve some bizarre device or discovery of DD's being misused by the family (e.g. a machine which seemingly randomly activates areas of the brain, such that the mother builds a giant cake about 30 feet high in the backyard, and the elderly neighbour decides to scale a nearby skyscraper), or some nefarious rival person/scientist trying to steal Dr. Dog's inventions or cause some sort of havoc.

Despite this being one of an increasing number of European co-productions (and the first entry for Norway in our database!) The Gumboyles are a very British looking (think 'Beano' family), which is reinforced by the very British voice cast (at least in the British version). The fact that their pet has an office complete with bone shaped table, couch and 'phone, wears a surgeon's smock, and entertains important visitors, is apparently completely normal to them.

The shows run for (I'm guessing) 12.5 minutes, and whereas they're seldom uproariously funny to adult sensibilities, they never bomb either. If you get to know the characters you - or at least your kids - will find it ikeable, if not breathtaking entertainment. It's a good show, though it has little really for adults. Recommended for the...errr... oh, 6-10 age group.
