The story of Cinderella is one of my favorites from Charles Perrault, along with Sleeping Beauty (that was also made in to a Disney film), and this film is a sweet, enchanting masterpiece from Disney.

The film has a great soundtrack (and that's one I like in a movie is a very good soundtrack) and I love the songs (my favorite is the romantic "So This is Love"); I love the mice too (they're cute). My favorite scene is after the narration, the little birds tried to wake Cinderella up in the morning, and I also love it when Cinderella's animal friends fix up Cinderella's mother's dress, so she could go to the ball (until Drizella & Anastasia tore it to bits The B******!).

I remember when I was growing up, loving the mice in this movie. All the other stuff didn't matter only the mice.
I just recently rewatched this movie on the dvd and was amazed at how much my perspective on it has changed. Instead of watching only the mice I actually focused on the human characters too. Although the mice are still quite charming and a nice addition to the film.

The story is a typical fairy tale with happy ending, but even with it's predictability it's still entertaining. Cinderella is a likeable character and is fleshed out well enough. The other characters are thought out fairly well too.

The music is great. I particularly liked the song Cinderella sings while washing the floor, "Sing Sweet Lullaby". That is a classic scene.
The animation, although dated now, is still quite good. Better than many of Disney's 60's films.

Overall this is a good movie, a classic, and one I'd recommend.

Time to give this poor forgotten movie a little more credit. I have never been a big fan of fairy tale type stories, but Cinderella should continue to inspire girls of all ages because of her courage to endure hardships while still remaining sweet and gentle. Her message and her character are perhaps more timeless than Snow White, who is a product of the times. Cinderella is ahead of her time, probably closer in spirit to Belle than Snow White or Aurora. While she's never fiery, independant, or outspoken, she maintains a thoroughly charming optimism and her trials over abusive family members hold more power in today's age than Snow White's struggles against a wicked Queen.

However it's not the dark side of this film that makes it so great but its light side. Cinderella has bounce to spare. The spirited musical score. Cinderella's flawless singing skills. The mischievous cat. The dopey king and even dopier duke. The ugly sisters' attempts to get on each other's nerves. And something about those gosh darn cute mice and birds when they sing their "Cinderelly" song just makes me melt. That's the thing about this movie. All the characters are great. There are no sidekicks in this movie. Just a whole bunch of colorful characters. Even the main villain isn't just another cackling evil person in black. She feels like a very real, if decidedly nasty, person. The only person, strangely enough, with no personality is the prince. Perhaps it's better this way. But like all the other of Disney's fairy tales, Cinderella really has no true reason for falling in love.

Minor quibbles aside, Cinderella is a fantastic movie. It certainly connects more with kids than adults and more on a thoughtful level than today's Disney movies. It may not be one of Disney's best and most dramatic movies, and its happy-go-lucky nature may put off some. However, it's certainly one of their best animated movies. With beauty on the outside as well as in, a strong role model, a wholesome message, and wonderful supporting characters, Cinderella is a pretty package through and through that's as timeless as it is fun.

I realize that Cinderella is one of those 'untouchable animated classics' and in truth there is nothing really wrong with this film. It's just, when stacked up against the rest of the animated kingdom, Cinderella comes across as rather bland. Sure as a kid you get drawn in by all the adorable little mice but when I watch it now there's nothing that grabs me--the animation, the relationships between the characters, the music... nothing. So feel free to watch it because of its 'classic' status but I can't really recommend it beyond that.
