posted: Jan 07, 2008 Rated it: | newbie | Mark Dindal is hands down my favorite director. You might give other names, but to me, he's the best. I mean, he did Cat's Don't Dance! Of course, when I heard he was making a new 3D movie, I was very excited(although little bit disappointed that the movie was going to be 3D). I read the reviews from Keyframe - most of them described the movie as some kind of demon spawn. I might be the only one here, but I enjoyed the movie quite a lot. Sure, it wasn't an animation that belongs in the hall of fame, but it achieved what it supposed to be - a light comedy. I've seen movies that I couldn't finish in one sit because it was really horrible, but Chicken Little was not the case. The character design might not be the best, but it was well done. The jokes were funny, and there were many amusing little details that Mark Dindal like to put in his movies. I think people expected so much from Mark Dindal that they felt almost insulted when they watched this movie. It surely wasn't his best, but it wasn't the most horrible movie ever. |

posted: Dec 05, 2006 Rated it: | World-Class Animation Critic | Here's some advice: DON"T EVEN TOUCH this movie. Horribly awful. Animation? Thrown together. I especially hated the Ugly Duckling. We at our house call it "The Movie that Almost Had a Story". We saw it in a secondary theater for $2, and it was a waste of money. After the movie, I was saying, "That was it?" The trailers emphasized the aliens taking over the world. The real "story" was: He hit a home run. Oh, yeah. Then these aliens come. S-T-U-P-I-D!!! |

posted: Nov 10, 2006 Rated it: | Reviewing Ninja | What a rip off. Ok, that would be if actually payed money to see this disaster. I'll try to keep my review short: DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE, it simply isn't worth the time, money, sight, or paying attention to the "story". Now, if you are an animation enthusiast and can leave no animated movie unwatched, I suggest youlook at the "good" aspects about this film. For instance, I don't remember it having any bad songs (or any song, for that matter). No, it is way better to avoid it, there are just so many better things to watch. |

posted: May 29, 2006 Rated it: | KF Managing Editor | If I could sum this movie up in a word, the word would be... meh. The visuals were interesting in as much as they had a certain style to them... sort of a Sesame St./Playskool feel... but this made the movie look and feel like it was targetted much younger than it was. For instance, we were well into things when someone mentioned Chicken Little was a teenager. A TEENAGER? REALLY?! The story itself was incredibly obvious and the emotional cues so heavy handed they might as well have been applied with a mallet. It's a real shame given the originality and sparkle that Mark Dindal's previous films had--Cats Don't Dance and Emperor's New Groove. While there isn't anything particularly wrong with Chicken Little, I don't think there's anything wildly special about it either. So I say again... meh. |

posted: Apr 11, 2006 Rated it: | KF Animation Editor | Well, this film was actually quite a bit better than I expected. (Which, frankly, doesn't say much. :p ) On the good side: Fairly funny, cute, some good emotion in the film. On the bad side: I wonder how many movies about dysfunctional fathers there will be before the movie industry gets as tired of it as I am. Typical Disney formula, well-meaning outcast proves himself and gains acceptance. And is it just me, or are they using the same stable of voice actors for every single frickin' cartoon these days?! One improvement--instead of just stealing scenes, Disney has learned to imitate them so blatantly and amusingly that it can be looked on as homage instead of theft. I saw quite a few nods to Looney Tunes, E.T., and even South Park. (C'mon, you can't tell me that Fish wasn't based on Kenny!!!) Fun movie, laughs, entetainment, good soundtrack. I'd watch it more than once. |

posted: Apr 01, 2006 Rated it: | World-Class Animation Critic | Bland is a word that sums this film up nicely. I found myself getting bored fifteen minutes into the movie. I have to agree with another review I read, it would have made a good 30 minute film. It was far too long for so little story material. The characters were pretty typical. I didn't really like any of them so when anything happened to one I didn't really care. I didn't like the style of the film at all. It looked terrible, although Chicken Little was kind of cute he was the only one.
This movie is not very funny either. Granted it did have its moments, but they were few and far between. Many of the jokes are either overused or forced. Soundtrack? I don't remember so it didn't stand out in any way to me. Lots of rock/pop song scattered throughout though. Some good some bad. This is a film, if not seen, nothing much has been missed.

posted: Dec 03, 2005 Rated it: | KF Animation Editor | If only Valiant was a Disney movie, so then Chicken Little's success could've served as a clue to Disney that a movie's greatness has nothing to do with whether it's traditionally animated or computer generated but with whether its story is well made or not. But Valiant wasn't a Disney movie, so it'll probably be "business as usual" for Disney, who'll be secure in the "knowledge" that 2D is dead and 3D means success, even though Valiant flopped harder than a wounded pigeon. I'm rather inclined to think that moviegoers went to see Chicken Little simply because of the Disney name and not because it's actually a good movie. But anyway. . . Don't let the Disney label fool you. This movie has Mark Dindal's fingerprints all over it. While the weakest of his three movies, Chicken Little is just bursting at the seams with lovable, colorful characters, and the movie just charms from start to finish. The aliens are a bit much, and the movie seems too hyperactive at times, but it's rare to see a movie with no bad guys, and the whole movie is basically just an effective message about proper parenting and bonding. I agree with the other reviewer that some of the jokes are rather forced, as are the pop songs, but everything else is rather effective and blended in seamlessly. I love the emotional theme of enduring humilation from your peers. I can actually identify with Chicken Little as I see a little bit of myself in him. The whole high school environment is also surprisingly apt. You even get the true-to-life trio of teen awkwardness, teen romance, and teen bullying. And thank God the movie didn't turn Chicken Little's small and weak stature into an overwrought element. He's actually quite the resourceful fellow. Some might find Chicken Little to be a bit TOO unmenacing and breezy. The right people, however, will find the movie wonderful stuff. |

posted: Nov 10, 2005 Rated it: | Toon Addict | EDIT: I just saw this movie in 3D and I liked it A LOT better. It looked like it had depth to it and the visuals and animation really stood out. I'm bumping it up to 3 1/2 starts. This movie was okay. The animation was excellent (loved the natural looking squash and stretch) and the story was average. Some of the jokes seemed a bit forced to tell you the truth. It had it's moments so I'm giving it a good solid three stars :D
