I won't hold back when it comes to this review, and I whole-heartedly admit that I detest this series. I hate it, hate it, hate it...

My biggest issues are the little details that ruin the bigger picture. For one thing, what bothers me the most is that Jake's (the main character) family name is "Long" a more stereotypically Chinese name, but his father is white and his mom is Chinese, so did his father take on his mother's last name??? If not, then why isn't his name something like 'Jake Smith' or 'Jake Johnson'? And why couldn't both parents be Asian? I know multicultural sensitivity and the acceptance of "alternative lifestyles" is a hot topic these days, but really, was the white dad really necessary to make him an "American" dragon? Couldn't he have come from a completely Chinese family and still be American? Something about the whole white = American equation just bothered me...

The characters were just bad, Jake's gyrating and stale catch-phrases kill any possible charm in the show. The ugly animation done on his dragon form is just inforgiveable, it didn't even look like a dragon. It looked like a Water Monitor lizard with a serious jaw problem that someone had painted red, slapped some crummy wings and a bad wig onto then deemed it worthy of 'dragonhood'. The storylines are just uninspired, and the even more bland characters making appearances throughout the episodes only make things worse.

In the end, it was a cool premise that had some potential, but then incompotent people came and made it ugly, crass, and just pitiful. Watch it at the risk of your brain cells...

I wish I could give it zero stars. The animation is horrible, the dialogs and plots seem to be written by a 5 year old, and the desings are some of the worst I've seen in a Disney TV series (especially the main hero, Jake). You really shouldn't watch this monstrosity, but if you do, you'll probably get bored and change the channel.

Once again, Disney has gone south with another abysmal series. First off, the characters hurt so much, especially Trixie. She has one of the most annoying personalities in the series. Not to moention the episodes are poorly written, but it's not half as bad as the dialog. The animation is really bad, and the character designs (save for a select few) are really horrible.

Disney needs to undergo some serious evaluation on how to make better TV series. Maybe they should look back to the 80s and early 90s for some inspiration.

Really, this would be a much better series if only the overall concept had not been pulled off so poorly. While the animation is good and the story is actually not bad, *cough*DannyPhantom*coughcough*ripoff*cough*the pop culture references and bad acting, and just the overall way that they tried to be ' hip' simply ruins what had some great potential.

Edit ( July 14, 2006 ): I just saw the new animation, and the first thing out of my mouth was " What the hell happened?!". Honestly, the animation used to be half decent, maybe even a blip above average, but now we've got this? You've got to be kidding! I can honestly tell you that I've seen five/six-year-olds draw better dragons ( and people for that matter ), and the fact that adults can do a crappier job, copyright it, and release it to the young public is just sad.

This is one of the more rancid cartoons I've ever seen. I say "more" and not most because, truth be told, I actually HAVE seen worse. But the whole show is insipid and full of cliches. Even worse, whoever created this cartoon is still stuck in the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" era. The cartoon tries to be "with it" and you know how much I hate that trend in cartoons. How can you take this show seriously when the main character says garbage like "I'm J to the A to the K to the E. Yo yo yo, whatup? I'm in the hizzouse!" Yeck! Just run away in the opposite direction as fast as you can if you see this cartoon. It's like Karate Kid with all the cliches multiplied by a hundred.
