There is at least one reason for watching this short. The scene with a man walking a piece of cheese - which is pretty surreal even by Tom and Jerry standards.

Unfortunately there aren't all that many other reasons. This a reasonable Van Beuren short, but not amongst T&J's best.

Our heroes are taking a train ride over some very steep mountains. At the top of a very precipitous hill, the train collapses. A dog comes running with a barrel of what turns out to be oil. The train drinks it, and is so energised it flies off mountain-hopping and leaving Tom and Jerry behind.

After a series of mildly amusing gags they come to the guy walking the piece of cheese, which leads them into a Swiss tavern, and an excuse for a musical number. It's ok (in fact I'm pretty sure the background melody is 'I Miss my Swiss (My Swiss Miss Misses Me), but VB have done much funnier ones.

Things come to an end when the guys eat some of the local cheese, which results in a pretty funny final gag.

If you chase down any old Tom and Jerry compilations (which are likely to be dirt cheap - mine cost $1, but seems to be unavailable now), this will probably be on it, but in case it's not, it's not essential. If you like early 30's style theatrical shorts, it's worth having though.

The '100 Cartoon Classics' DVD which you'll see linked to in the profile for some other Tom and Jerry shorts has about 8 T&J cartoons, but not this one, however 'Tom and Jerry and Friends' does.
