BRB was probably best known for Dogtanian. However, Around the World with Willy Fog, or Around the World in 80 Days if you will, was arguably their most successful. Both are very fine cartoons. In fact, I just caught the very first episode of Dogtanian on Youtube, and it still holds up, and it's just further proof that not everything from the 80s were glorified toy commercials.

Around the World was probably my favorite cartoon in the 80s that wasn't one of the "big three"(MCoG, Spartakus, and Ulysses). The characterizations were well thought out yet cartoony enough to capture the imagination of any child. I still remember the strange snot bubble coming out of a character's nose when he or she was sleeping. This show was actually one of the most accurate recreations of the original novel, and the "race against time" theme kept things very exciting. Unlike Dogtanian, and indeed most of the other cartoons from this decade, Around the World had a clear ending you could see. Willy Fog just HAD to reach England, so the viewer kept coming back again and again to see what happened in the next episode and finally see if he succeeded or failed. The main driving point was seeing how Willy Fog and company foiled those chasing him, especially the master of disguise Transfer. This show also had a mild romantic theme with the presence of Princess Romy. Despite her stereotypical genteel nature and high pitched voice, I must admit I used to have a crush on her. All in all, a fabulous show. Just wish it would get released in its entirety on DVD so I could brush up on my memory of it.
