The Buzz: June 2006
Disney Returning to 2D
Ever since the Disney/Pixar merger and John Lasseter's new role as Disney's creative big-wig, there has been rumors on the 'net that under his influence Disney will return to producing 2D animated features. Now, a certain amount of this speculation could be attributed to wishful thinking on the part of the fans, but the buzz on this is starting to get undeniable. The Laughing Place is reporting that Lasseter singled out to projects--Glen Keane's Rapunzel and Ron Clements and John Musker's The Frog Princess--and the projects were given the option to go *either* CG or traditional depending on which was felt was best for the project. Reportedly Keane has decided to stay CG given the amount of effort that has already gone in to getting the look he wants. The script for The Frog Princess is not complete yet and will be due in sometimes this fall, however word is that Clements and Musker intend to go with traditional animation and Lasseter will support them in that choice.
