The Buzz: January 2006
And the Nominees are...
The Oscar nominees came out today and I think the biggest surprise for me is the fact that these three seem like 'smaller' films--certainly compared to past years where you've got giants like "The Incredibles" or "Shrek" going up against each other. Plus, a 2D film and two stop motion films? The CG industry must be feeling a little miffed right now.
This years's nominees for Best Animated Feature are:

Classic Cartoons available through the Web
It would appear that the internet will soon be getting into cartoons in an aggressive way. BCDb reports that the Google Video Store will soon be offering such cartoon favorites as Felix the Cat, Casper The Friendly Ghost and Rocky and Bullwinkle, among other Classic Media titles.
The iTunes Music Store has been offering animation for a little while in the form of iVideo versions of Pixar's short films. Yahoo! Finance reports that some historial Disney animated shorts will soon be available as well.

Disney to buy Pixar?
The first time I saw this on the grapevine I was fairly skeptical, but it's a rumour that's persisting and one that's now made it into sources such as Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Business Times. Apparently sources close to the current talks say that negotiations are now leaning toward Disney buying part or all of Pixar. In this scenario, Steve Jobs of Pixar would likely become a major Disney shareholder, with the possibility of his being made the company's chairman present as well. Disney and Pixar have not responded as of yet to the rumours.
