The Buzz: January 2005
Disney: Going, going....
If you've been putting off picking up certain Disney DVD's and VHS, you might want to do it now. Disney have announced that they're pulling their entire Lion King range from DVD, including all editions and both sequels, at the end of January, and that they won't be re-issuing any of their "classics" (not clear which titles/editions this means) on DVD until their preferred 'Blu-Ray' DVD format takes on in the home market. In addition, Amazon are reporting that as of Jan 31st, Disney are pulling several of their VHS titles for good. These include Lady and the Tramp II , Jungle Book II, Fantasia 2000, 101 Dalmatians II and Sleeping Beauty that we know of.

Religious groups target SpongeBob video as 'pro-homosexual'
Religious groups are targeting a music video created to promote tolerance of others. The video features SpongeBob along with other cartoon characters and celebrities as they sing "We Are Family." These religious groups contend that the video is 'pro-homosexual' and it is 'brain-washing' children. How is SpongeBob pro-homosexual? Apparently his relationship with Patrick the starfish has been deemed too affectionate for two male characters--or at least a sponge and a starfish. Articles available on CBC.ca and BBC News

Incredibles II? With Brad Bird?
According to Brad Bird, some sequels are best left unmade but some sequels--such as Pixar's Toy Story 2--are actually a pretty good idea. He told the Los Angeles Daily News that he would love to return to the world of The Incredibles just because he loves the characters so much. However, for him to return to work on the sequel, it would have to be the right story. Will Disney and Pixar agree? Who knows.
