In a galaxy far away, a group of scientists created a mighty robot named Voltron who was designed to be the defender of the galaxy. However, the villian Zarkon, in his quest for galactic domination, saw to it that Voltron was split into five 'lion-shaped' pieces and put into hibernation. Later, after Zarkon had established his hold on the galaxy, those piece of Voltron were discovered by five space explorers--Keith, Lance, Sven (later replaced by Princess Allura), Hunk and Pidge. Together, they are able to reform Voltron and take on the evil forces of Zarkon.
