Long, long time ago, when dinosaurs still roamed the land, the Earth began to change and the vegetation that the leaf-eater dinosaurs fed on began to die. To survive, they began walking in search of a mythic, green place called the Great Valley where there would be enough food to eat for the rest of their lives. Among those travelling the barren wastelands are Littlefoot and his mother who must search out what little food is available along the way. When she is killed by a meat-eater, Littlefoot must follow his heart to lead him and his new friends across the dangerous land to new hope and a new life in the Great Valley.
