Steamboat Willie is often touted as the first sound cartoon, in fact the Fleischer studios had been making a few sound shorts (known as Song Car-Tunes) since 1924.

Nor was this the first Mickey Mouse cartoon made, the first was Plane Crazy, which had been made a few months earlier and had a limited screening before Disney withdrew it for the purpose of adding a soundtrack.
