Young Chihiro and her family come upon a mysterious tunnel and haunted town that lead to the Land of Spirits, a place of gods and monsters that is ruled by the greedy witch Yu-baba. After Chihiro's parents are transformed into pigs, she must surrender her name and serve in this world in the hope that she might someday be able to rescue them. Initially sulky and listless, Chihiro (or Sen, as she's now called) finds inner strength and allies as she establishes a new identity in this strange world.
