After saving an mongoose from drowning in their India estate, a English family adopt him as a pet, hoping that he will be able to deter any dangerous snakes that should come too near. Two deadly cobras, Nag and Nagaina, arrive at the estate, with designs on using it as a breeding ground; but first they have to kill the human occupants and their newfound guardian, who stands, steadfastly in the way.
