Forty years ago… Using the last of its energy the legendary Pokémon Celebi transports itself and its savoir, young Sammy, into the future and away from the hunter trying to capture it…
Present day, Sam and Celebi are found by Ash and his friends, Brock Misty and Pikachu. Together they help to protect the weakened Celebi from the Iron Masked Marauder, a technically advanced Team Rocket hunter from the future, who uses his corrupting dark pokéballs to turn pokémon into aggressive, heartless monsters forced to obey his commands.
