The lonely toymaker, Gepetto, creates a wooden marionette which he names Pinocchio. His wish that Pinocchio can become alive is unexpectedly granted by the Blue Fairy but Pinocchio won't be a real boy until he proves himself worthy. She assigns Jiminy Cricket to act as Pinocchio's "conscience" and keep him out of trouble, but the world holds many evils and temptations for a small naive puppet.
