Lewis is a brilliant 12 year old inventor whose latest creation is designed to help him retrieve early memories of his mother so that he might know her and understand why she put him up for adoption. However, before he can get his answer, the evil Bowler Hat Guy steals away his invention for his own dastardly purposes. Lewis has all but given up hope until the arrival of Wilbur Robinson from the future. Wilbur takes Lewis with him forward in time to meet Wilbur's eccentric family. Along the way they must save the future from Bowler Hat Guy and uncover the secret of Lewis' real family.
