Leo the Lion
Leo the Lion © Mushi Productions

The further adventures of Kimba the White Lion, but dubbed into English by a
different production company (hence the use of the characters' Japanese
names).

A few years have passed since the end of the first TV series (not 20 years as claimed in one episode), and Leo (Kimba) and Lea (Kitty) are now parents of cubs (who look just like older lions did when they were young). The real focus of the series as a whole is on the male cub, Rune, as he matures from a whiny
weakling to a true hero.

Created by: Mushi Productions
Released: 1966
Language: English dub / Japanese
Country of Origin: Japan
Style: 2D animation
Viewer Warning: Animated violence
Number of Episodes: 26
Series Created by: Osamu Tezuka
Directed by: Echi Yamamoto
Musical Score by: Isao Tomita
Based on: (Loosely) on the manga 'Jungle Taitei' (1950)
Of Interest:

Tezuka chafed at the restrictions imposed on him by the American studio which bought 'Kimba'. After Kimba's success, he made 'Leo' without consulting them, and presented it only to have it rejected as too dark, violent and depressing. Consequently it was nearly 20 years before it ws broadcast in the USA (1984)
