Bugville is an insect town hidden in a vacant lot in New York ("off Broadway" by about four feet). The hero, Hoppity the grasshopper must contend with the villainous C. Bagley Beetle, who has been promised the 'hand' of his girlfriend, Honey Bee. Worse, the kindly human owners of the vacant lot have been foreclosed upon, and a skyscraper is to be built there, meaning the end of Bugville. The only hope is if Hoppity can help the humans get their dreamhome built, leaving space for Bugville - but Bagley Beetle is out to ensure that never happens.

Of Interest: The plot is somewhat ironic, as Paramount foreclosed on Fleischer Studios when they couldn't repay the advance on the loan to finance this movie - meaning 'Hoppity' was their second and final feature film (despite making 600 animated shorts and serials, including nearly 30 the same year as this film alone).
