Gin is a silver, tiger striped Akita, third in the bloodline of powerful bear-dogs. Fearless and intelligent, he is chosen by and subjected to the brutal training of local bear-hunter Gohei Takeda, who trained Gin' father and his father before him. Soon, on a hunt for Akakabuto, the monstrous half-mad bear of the forest, Gin witnesses a fight between the mighty ursine and his own father Riki and sets out to find him. Proving himself to the amnesic Riki, Gin and his rival John set out with the wild dogs to gather an army capable of standing up to Akakabuto, but the road is long and hard and there are many enemies to face along the way.
