Gargoyles
Gargoyles © Disney

In 994 A.D., Goliath and his clan of gargoyles live in and defend a Scottish castle alongside the castle's human occupants. In exchange, the humans protect the gargoyles during the day, since they turn to stone from dawn to dusk. During a momentus attack on the castle, the gargoyles are betrayed and all but a handful are destroyed. Those remaining are put under a spell and they remain in stone form for a thousand years. When they wake up they find their castle has been moved a top a skyscraper in New York city, thanks to the billionaire, Xanatos. The modern world is even more complex and conflicted than old Scotland but with the help of NYPD detective, Elisa Maza, the gargoyles resume their role as the night protectors of humankind.

Of Interest:

As a Star Trek fan, one thing that always popped out for me about Gargoyles was the number of voices provided by actors from the Star Trek universe. Every Star Trek series is represented -- Star Trek: The Next Generation (Jonathan Frakes, Martina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Colm Meany and LeVar Burton), Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (Avery Brooks, Michael Dorn and Colm Meany), Star Trek: Voyager (Kate Mulgrew) and the original Star Trek series (Nichelle Nichols). By accident or by design, it has got to be one of the weirder crossover effects that I've ever seen. [read more on this topic in this article from the Kate Mulgrew fan newsletter, Now Voyager]
