Soon after an argument, Dr. Boyton loses his son Toby in a fatal road accident. The doctor redesigns the advanced super robot his team at the Ministry of Science have been trying to build in his son’s image. The Mayor threatens to stop the project, but the doctor activates the robot secretly and takes him home to be his son. After an incident were Toby is discovered, they are forced to leave and take the nearest ship out of Japan. Toby’s destructive strength makes the doctor lose his temper and he sends the robot away in a fit of rage, telling the robot that he is not his son. Upset, Toby is tricked into signing himself away to a traveling robot circus. He is later recovered from the circus by new head of the Ministry Dr. Elefun, who brings the robot, now renamed Astroboy, back to his native homeland, where he can live free with a family of his own; go to school and go on missions to help others.

Of Interest: Kazutaka Miyatake was the designer for the 1980’s version of Atlas. The original design for Atlas was created in 1956 for the Manga and went unused in the various animé until the 2003 series was produced.
